Vascular testing is used by podiatrists to make sure that there is adequate blood flow to your lower limbs. If you experience pain when walking and need to stop to rest after some time, you most likely have symptoms of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) and need to be evaluated. Diabetes, smoking, Heart disease can be causes of PAD and can lead to gangrene or limb loss if left untreated. Vascular testing may be performed if you are experiencing pain, numbness, or weakness in your legs, have poorly healing wounds, or have a history of diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Vascular tests are generally noninvasive and painless. They play an important part in diagnosing diseases such as PAD.

If you have diabetes, a non-healing ulcer, or history of smoking, Dr. Luvish may perform the test that can be crucial in preventing complications such as infections, gangrene and limb loss. If you suffer from pain in the legs, heaviness, difficulty walking and need to stop to rest, numbness, cold toes, Dr. Luvish performs ABI/PVR (Ankle Brachial Index/Pulse Volume Recording) test right in the office. ABI test involves measurement of blood pressure in the ankle and arm and comparing the numbers. PVR test involves placing of blood pressure calves along the legs: thigh, calf, ankle, toes) and Doppler is used to determine the location of the disease.
